It was the time of the plague–make that, the Corona Virus pandemic. I was struggling to finish a book on the Sublime in the Middle Ages, and I found that the more time I had on my hands, sheltered at home, the slower I worked. I needed something new, and “Magic Mountain” is the result. My first blog postings are about plague literature. I’ll add other essays of my own, old and new, but I also invite contributions from others on any and all subjects of interest within the range of topics, literature, art, ideas, history.
When I was an academic, I wrote as an academic (professor of German, Comp Lit and Medieval Studies). I have published on literature, art, aesthetics, especially medieval. Magic Mountain is an opportunity to broaden my horizons. For you too, I hope.
